2021 adoptions
Fostering 101

You must fill out an application to foster if you haven't been approved within the last year or so.  This application is the same as the adoption application; just state that you're interested in fostering.

Once you're approved, this page is designed to help you navigate the Wag On Inn group.  There are many volunteers who are happy to share their knowledge and experiences.  Thank you for being a Wag On Inn foster family!

Animals that need a foster home are always on the website on the "Needs a Foster Home" page at https://wagoninn.rescuegroups.org/animals/browse?Page=2&special=needsFoster&Status=Available,Sponsorship&Courtesy=No

Foster Resources:

Our Foster Guide explains your role as a foster family.  Please request a copy from the Placement Team (woiplacement@gmail.com).

After an adoption, the Adoption Contract, along with check or cash payments, is sent to Wag On Inn per the foster guide. You will give a copy of the Adoption Contract and the animal's medical records to the adopter, along with a copy of the welcome letter.

Please also give the adopter information about the training offered to WOI adopters from Good Dog Training.   https://wagoninn.rescuegroups.org/info/file?file=29637.pdf

Useful email addresses:

Foster communications To sign up for a foster, to update the team on a pending adoption/adoption, and to communicate about vacations or foster needs, please use WOIPlacement@gmail.com

Website/Facebook/Instagram updates Please send foster photos to this email for posts on social media! Feel free to share fun facts, funny stories or something positive about your foster so we can help find them a family!  Short videos, especially of them loving on a person, are very helpful in catching attention!  WOIPromotions@gmail.com

Flea/tick and Heartworm prevention – Please be sure to check your foster's medical records and see when their F/T/HW prevention is due. If you need a dose, please reach out to woiplacement@gmail.com. Please be sure to remind your adopters when their next dose is due.

Medical appointments – Your contacts for veterinary appointments are Wendy, Liza, and Amanda. If you think your foster needs an appointment to see a vet, reach out and we will get you scheduled. Heartworm-related questions should be directed to Laura. Spay-neuter questions should be directed to Debbie as she is currently our spay-neuter coordinator for dogs and puppies!

Application assistance – If you have a question on an application you have received, please reach out to the reviewer or Charlene:

Charlene: charlenego@msn.com

Behavior assistance – 95% of the dogs we get are wonderful and only require basic training work for housebreaking, crate training, leash walking, etc. Some arrive and they struggle with their new environment, new family, new foster siblings. Most dog friendly dogs are generally friendly to most dogs – this is how our program works so well 99% of the time - but it isn’t true in all cases. Sometimes foster dogs and foster siblings just do not get along. It is important to do a slow, controlled introduction with adult fosters for your best chance of success.  Meeting out front, going for a walk and then giving your new foster a gated room to settle in seems to work best. If you are struggling, reach out and we can help! Have a plan in mind for how you can keep the dogs separated if needed, even if they only need a break from each other at times. Crates and gates work great for this. If there is an issue and the dogs just do not get along we will move the dog to a new foster or boarding as soon as we can!

If your foster dog is struggling with shyness, anxiety, fear, aggression, or any other red flags, please reach out to our volunteer trainers, volunteer mentors or the medical team for help. We have two volunteer trainers you can reach out to:

Lisa: dwndog@aol.com

Sarah: sarah.bush1@comcast.net

We also will pay for training help if needed in certain situations. If you feel you need that level of training for your foster, please reach out and we will discuss and set up an appointment for you.

Adoption contracts or fee questions  – Katie Elko has the enormous job of making sure we receive adoption contracts and fees for every single WOI critter! Reach out with questions to  wagoninntreasurer@gmail.com

Thank you for being part of our life-saving team!
