Zoey is a 5-year-old mixed-breed dog who came to the US from the Dominican Republic. She looks like a Whippet mix. Zoey is a VERY loving and affectionate dog when comfortable and trusting of the person, but it takes a little while for her to build trust.  Zoey does best with patient and kind people who can be firm and in control, because she can trust them. She prefers meeting people who let her come to them when she is ready.

Zoey's family has worked hard with her over the past 5 years to help her to overcome the fears that she came to them with, and she was doing well until a baby joined the household. Zoey has become tense and anxious around the baby, and her family thinks she would be best in a home with no children or older children, who will be gentler and kinder than babies can be.

Zoey is a higher-energy dog who loves to go for walks in the park, and especially loves to run. She enjoys other dogs, but sometimes needs some time to get to know them (just like she is with people!). Zoey loves to chase and be chased. She is obedience-trained, and is very good at "sit", "come", "down", "look at me", "touch". She loves to sleep under blankets, loves her crate (and will put herself to bed), and can be very silly - she doesn't mind dressing up in halloween costumes or a santa hat!

Zoey's family is heartbroken to give her up, and is willing to work with her adopters to ensure that the transition is a positive one. Their trainer has offered a complementary in-home training session, too!
