Hi, I'm Jessica. Hectors foster mom
. I'm going to give you the good, bad, & the ugly on this wonderful dog. I believe when adopting a dog, in order for it to truly be a success, you must know what you are getting.
The good.. he's amazing with kids of all ages. He's super friendly with all 5 of my dogs & very submissive. He is Cat friendly & loves to play. My cats are grumpy so he moves along when they tell him go away. He is house trained. He's neutered & up to date on shots. He's kennel trained. I believe he's spent much of his life in a kennel because he's so quiet when he's in it. Never barks or whines at all. He sleeps in it while the door is opened. He's learning to go in on command but still needs a treat to coax him in. He loves to take trips & jumps in my truck with no problems. He will walk on a leash but wants to pull you so that needs work. He is great at feeding time. Shows no aggression what so ever. He likes to take a bath.
The (kind of) bad but a lot has been corrected... so Hector is a dog with lots of energy. Sometimes, he has so much energy, that he doesn't know how to direct it. (A life in a kennel can do that) So, he finds something to get into or pick up. I will "assume" this is what got him dumped. When he got here, he did not know what NO meant or any other commands for that matter. He was a wild child. Snatching & grabbing any object he could.. When he picked up something not belonging to him, he would try to run with it in hopes someone would chase him. I quickly realized he had learned to make it a game. All Hector knew, was this was exciting. Someone is playing with me/chasing me.. woo-hoo! He now knows if he picks up anything that isn't his, like his toys or chews, no one is gonna play. He's told NO, it's dropped, things get boring & he settles down. He seldom picks up things anymore.
The ugly... the ugly here is that this is a wonderful dog with such a strong desire to learn & to please. He's super easy to work with but has never been taught how to behave, or where his boundaries are. The ugly is that HE was failed.. whoever dumped him simply did not try
Since being here he has learned so much in such a short time. Hector deserves a bright future. He deserves everything good life can offer him. He is a gentle baby. He will not disappoint if he knows what is expected of him. He will be the the friend you will cherish always & never forget.
Hector has been fixed, microchipped and he is now up to date on vaccines. He is heartworm negative. His adoption fee is $400.
