Sapphire was rescued on Cinco de Mayo from NYC Animal Care and Control, the public shelter for NYC. Sapphire is a purebred Chihuahua. She is estimated to be 10 years old and she is approximately 10 lbs. This little darling is dog friendly, cat friendly and so sweet! She quickly joined her foster pack and spent her first day sleeping on the couch. We can only imagine how scary the NYC shelter is for a tiny pup.

Sapphire is a typical chi, a bossy girl and she does bark! She likes to alert the pack when it is time to go out or time to eat but she doesn't bark much otherwise, maybe if someone is at the door. Sapphire thinks she is the CEO around here and the other dogs oblige her with that title. She can be possessive over her food and should be fed separately from other dogs or closely monitored if in the same area.  Sapphire does not like car rides! She is fine to be left home and super happy to see you when you get back!

Sapphire's bloodwork reported her liver values to be high but they have decreased significantly with the medication she is on. She may require the liver supplement for the rest of her life and bloodwork to monitor twice a year. Her biopsy showed no sign of cancer and her bioassay test reported normal liver function. She has been fixed and her teeth were cleaned. The liver supplement is approximately $25 every 60 days.  Her adoption fee is $250.
