Cecilia is an adorable rat terrier mix who is looking for a new home! We think she's about 8-9 months old.
She quickly settled in to her foster home, and seems quite happy with my husband and me (and the other 6 dogs here, LOL). She follows us everywhere and seems quite attached. She is a great snuggler in bed with us, and hasn't had any accidents indoors. We do get the dogs out a lot, so I haven't seen her ASK to go out, but she takes advantage of the opportunity to potty outside when given a chance. She also learned our doggie door very quickly so can go in and out as she wants. We haven't had to crate her at all, except in the car when she first arrived, so I don't know what she'd be like. She was quiet in the crate in the car.
Cecilia is happy and bouncy and energetic and fun. She loves to chase balls and butterflies and leaves. She hasn't actually returned the ball, so you can't call it "fetch", but I think she'll figure it out! She's been on a couple of beach walks in addition to our twice-daily neighborhood walks, and seems to really enjoy them, but she does not know how to walk nicely on leash - she darts from one side to the other. We're working on it!
Cecilia does need a special home. She is a timid little girl. She cowers when we go to put her leash on, which is sad. She played ball with a young girl on Saturday, but has been afraid of all other children she's met here. Her reaction is to run/hide from them, but after a period of time will hang around near them and even take a treat. She seems to be willing to say hi to adults pretty quickly, but until she trusts, she doesn't want to be restrained. I'm sure she will soon learn to trust, with proper introductions, since she's so young. And I can see how she is with us -- a happy, comfortable dog after less than a day.
She has been playing with young dogs here, but was frightened of/annoyed with a very energetic and rough 4-month-old puppy who's bigger than her. She's met that dog a couple of times so far, and is getting less nervous, but she shows her teeth and growls to tell the dog not to jump on her. Again, I think it will just take some time for her to get comfortable. It is hard to imagine what hardships she might have had to face in her short life.
Cecilia would be best in an adult-only home that will give her lots of love, patience and TLC. If there are children, they need to be calm and willing to wait for her to come to them. She is not a dog who would do well in a city environment.
Cecilia has been spayed and microchipped and she is up-to-date on vaccines. She is heartworm negative. Her adoption fee is $450.
