Gentle Ben's Story
Ben is a 6-7 year old 130 pound gentle blind male akita who lived his life in a Commercial breeding facility in Paris Arkansas. In March the HSUS was called in to a puppy mill raid that removed over 350 animals from a life of misery. Ben was one of the dogs removed. For years Ben lived blind in a cage, he never knew the life our own pets know , he only knew life in a small cage that he could barely stand up in . When the director of the HSUS got to Ben he was taken by this massive akitas gentle nature, after years of living in filthy conditions, and without a loving touch Ben was still gentle and forgiving to humans.
NOW: Even tho Ben is blind, he still remains confident, he is not afraid of being in new places or meeting new people. Ben is out going and seems to be not bothered by the fact he is totally blind, this boy with make a wonderful companion in the right home. Ben is now in the hands of 2 akita rescuers who are now faced with Ben's health concerns and mounting vet bills due to Ben having Glaucoma , and several tick born diseases. Ben's prognosis is he will need both of his eyes removed . This is so that Ben can live pain free. . We are reaching out into the community asking for any financial help possible for Ben.
Below I have posted pictures & a link to a blog that will tell you about Ben and the horrible conditions this akita has had to endure for years in a commercial breeding facility . I have add pictures of Ben the day he was rescued from the mill along with Ben's transport to NJ and what Ben looks like now in the care of Carla Boyd & Joann Dimon . Your gift to Ben will be very much appreciated and very much needed . Please go to the ARWNY site at : www.akitarescuewny.com and ear mark you gift to Ben, this is tax deductible . We will keep you posted on Ben and his eye surgery . We are hoping that once we get Ben fully healthy we can then find this gorgeous and sweet akita a forever home.
