WAG ON INN RESCUE

FOSTERING

We save a life with every foster animal that we care for. Many of these animals faced death before coming to us, and thanks to our foster families, they will find loving forever homes.

If we have foster homes, we arrange for animals to come to NJ. We need a place for them to stay until they are adopted. Generally, puppies stay with their foster families for a minimum of 10 days, and at most a few weeks.  Adults are often adopted that quickly, too, but sometimes take longer. We have the 10-day minimum because want to ensure that every animal is healthy before he/she goes to its forever home, and we want to ensure that we know what kind of home the animal would be best in.

If needed, Wag On Inn will supply the materials necessary to be a foster home - you just provide the love! If you can provide supplies, then save the receipts – you can claim them on your taxes!

A foster family’s responsibilities include:

  • meeting the transport or arranging to receive the animal
  • making sure that the animal is healthy, and asking Wag On Inn for a vet appointment if needed
  • identifying any issues or specific requirements for the animal's new family
  • taking photos/video of the animal and writing a description
  • socializing the animal if needed
  • taking your animal to adoption outreaches
  • spreading the word about your foster animal
  • providing exercise, training, and love!

Many people tell us that they don’t think they could foster because they couldn’t let the animal go. It is possible! We all have been through the heartbreak of letting our foster animals go to their new homes – we cry a little, and then we look forward to the next life that we can save!
